The Sundus Coat

This incredible vintage coat featuring motifs from Saraqib features colorful traditional cross stitch on black poly-blend fabric. Each stitch is done by hand: this was truly a labor of love.

Pit to Pit (Laying Flat): 24”

Length (Neck to Hem): 52”

Because this is handmade, there may be some imperfection (though we prefer to call it “character”.) You might also notice asymmetry in the design (some scholars believe this is because Syrian embroiderers are superstitious and deliberately avoid symmetry to protect the wearer from the evil eye.) Syrian cross-stitch is an endangered practice, and pieces like this are rare. We ask that if you do adopt this special dress, that you treat it with gentleness and care. It has traveled a long way from its home!
